Deesa – India (Mission 11)

The eleventh volunteer medical mission of Arpan Global Charities was held at the Gandhi Lincoln Hospital at Deesa, in the state of Gujarat in India from January 30, 2012 to February 04, 2012.
A team of 30 volunteers predominantly from CHOC Children’s Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, California included:

In addition to volunteers from US there were many dedicated medical and non-medical volunteers from Deesa and other parts of India who helped to make this a very successful mission.
While in Deesa the team members examined and treated about 600 children and adult patients and performed 18 non surgical and 15 major complex surgical procedures including GI surgery, orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery.
Our team members gave didactic lectures and participated in the daily rounds with local faculty members and the interns. We also visited rural areas including Tharad, Palanpur amd Radhanpur where we participated in out patient clinics including an HIV clinic.
During this mission our team members also visited couple of orphanages where we distributed clothes, toys and examined every orphan and many of the children from these orphanages required treatments for different diseases.
This mission was not possible without help and generous support by Bhansali Trust who runs Gandhi-Lincoln Hospital. I will fail in my duty if do not extend by sincerest appreciation and thanks to Dr. Jagdish Soni, the superintendent of the Gandhi-Lincoln Hospital, and all the volunteers for their dedication and hard work to make Mission Deesa a very successful mission.
